Positive outlook for UAE business growth

With increasing business optimism in the UAE a period of ‘robust’ economic growth in 2010 is being predicted by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI). The chances of an early recovery are expected to be boosted by a pick-up in oil prices, improved liquidity, extra government expenditure and falling inflation, says Hamad Buamin, the DCCI Director-General.

The size of the UAE and Dubai markets and their stable economic and political position mean they are well placed to resist any significant fall in economic growth, DCCI says.
Meanwhile economic development will be further boosted by multibillion-dollar investments in airports, airlines, hospitality industries and urban development projects.

Dubai is currently building the world’s largest greenfield airport and the world’s tallest building, which are expected to further strengthen the emirate’s position as a premier tourism and commercial destination. Further supporting the city’s development, Dubai Metro is being completed as the first automated rail transport system of its kind in the Middle East.

Gifts and courtesy make sound business sense

Giving gifts as a token of appreciation is a centuries-old part of Arabic culture. That culture has a lot to teach the wider world of business too, writes Justin Boutros

The value of a surprise gift, or a timely thank you, should never be understimated, least of all when economic conditions are tough. When everyone else is too busy to be polite, that’s when being considerate really counts.
This is something I have learned over many years working with successful business-owners and top professionals in many industries.

Whatever the business, whatever the industry, I have noticed that successful people often have one thing in common. They know that good manners are an important part of business life, that courtesy wins friends and that being liked opens doors.

This doesn’t mean that they don’t have to deal with difficult situations – that’s a normal part of business life too – but it does mean that people trust and respect them whatever the circumstances.

In a competitive world where cost and efficiency are king, this is a simple lesson worth keeping in mind. Whatever business you are in remembering to say ‘thank you’, or taking time to give someone a well-chosen gift, will always be appreciated.

The right event for you? Certainly!
